About Me

Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my website! 

I write picture books, middle-grade, and young-adult novels.

I am an SCBWI and Inked Voices member, and I'm also active in the writing community on Twitter. I'm represented by Shari Maurer at Stringer Literary.

 

In my day-to-day life I wear many hats— I am an author, a retinal surgeon, mom of two and proud Cuba-American. 

I’ve always been drawn to books and writing. As a kid, I spent time writing small verses for my mom and grandmother. I continued to write through college, but my passion for words was also balanced by a strong scientific curiosity. I settled on medicine as a career— a profession that marries sciences and humanities.

During medical training, creative writing took a backseat while I focused on nonfiction work that has been published in medical journals. However, after a life-changing event, I found refuge again in creative writing and the power of words carried me forward toward the light. 

When I'm not writing or taking care of patients, I am spending time with my family, or daydreaming of the places that we will visit next.
